Insomniac
Green Day
Reprise Records
The sound of a band doubling down. Released in October 1995 as the follow-up to the multi-platinum Dookie, Insomniac saw Green Day strip back, tighten up, and turn the distortion to eleven. Where Dookie was wide-eyed and gleefully anarchic, Insomniac is darker, scrappier, and deliberately abrasive — a reaction to the mainstream success they'd never quite asked for. Recorded at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco with producer Rob Cavallo, the album tears through 14 tracks in under 33 minutes, barely stopping for breath. The cover collage — Winston Smith's God Told Me to Skin You Alive — says everything you need to know. On Reprise Records.
Singles include Geek Stink Breath, Stuck with Me, Brain Stew / Jaded and Walking Contradiction. This is the standard black vinyl 1LP reissue (2009 pressing).
