Poppy Ackroyd returns with Liminal — her most intimate album in years and a record born from a period of profound upheaval. Written and recorded in just three months, it marks a return to the core of her practice: piano and violin, exclusively, with every sound drawn from the physical bodies of the instruments themselves. Melody, harmony, rhythm and texture extracted from bowed and plucked strings, percussive elements and the spaces between. Despite the difficult circumstances of its creation, Liminal has a quiet resolve and — as Ackroyd discovered listening back — an unexpected joy.
